– Masha, to become a dancer – it was a childhood dream?
– Yes, I was only three years old, but I could not live without music and dance. My parents saw my passion and decided to send me to a dance class. They began to see my abilities. For a while I worked in this circle, and then I was admitted to the Song and Dance Ensemble Loktev. There I learned that all the girls progress to a mysterious Academy of Choreography. – Are your parents of the ballet world?
– No, absolutely. My mother is an economist and my father, a chemist. There are no ties to the ballet world and have never been …
– So you entered the Academy of Choreography?
– It was what I wanted and I worked hard to achieve my goals. I achieved everything through hard work. I am a Gemini.
– At the academy you probably dreamed of becoming a soloist, and not “the third swan Right”?
– Well, of course. (Smiles.) Appetite comes with eating. In the first class of school, I did not “stand on my feet” very well by ballet standards: I achieved a four in classical dance, but from the second class – “excellent.” I was very much involved, and eventually I was dancing solos. When I steped on the stage of The Bolshoi Theatre in ‘La Bayadere’ (there is a small role which is usually performed by a student from the academy) I realized that I wanted to dance only here on this legendary stage. In 2006, after graduation, I was invited to audition for the Bolshoi Theater and was accepted into the troupe.
– At the Bolshoi did you start in the corps de ballet?
– Yes, it is common practice: no matter whether you danced the leading roles in the Academy, in the theater you have to start from scratch. I started from the second corps de ballet. Then I moved to the first. Then to coryphée, soloist, first soloist. I went all the way – from the very first step to leading soloist.
– Today, what is your favorite role? Giselle, perhaps?
– Yes, Giselle. I also really like the role of Shirin in the “Legend of Love” by Yuri Grigorovich, the ballet which returned to the historical stage of the Bolshoi last season.When the theatre was being renovated, the performance left the repertoire, and I feel great happiness that it was returned. Again, I had the good fortune to work with Yuri Grigorovich. I first came into contact with him when I danced Anastasia in his ballet “Ivan the Terrible”. He cast me in this role. Yuri is a genius.
-In the premiere of the Bolshoi Ballet, the play “Hero of Our Time”, you danced Bela. Directors spotted your hot temperament?
– I do not know. (Laughs.) But I really like my character, and the role, as a whole, is very beautiful. But it is not simple. All 30 minutes, until the last performance, you’re on the stage, and there is no way even to take a breath. Plus there are elaborate costumes. It is three-layered. Along the way, I shed them and stay in a top and pants, but have to dance with such a “burden.”
– Masha, are you are bold and wild, like Bella?

– What attracts you to Ivan Vasiliev, in addition to talent, of course?
– Very much … I love him very much. He is simply the best. Vanya has great sense of humor. And yet he is honest, open and, above all, a responsible person.

– Are you fragile, delicate, capricious?
– Capricious. (Laughs.) It happens that my mood changes often. But Vanya is always absolutely calm in all senses. Never irritated, never startled. The ideal person for me. Absolutely.
– It is easy to assume that you, among other things, conquer by your beauty. In general, the beauty of a ballerina – is it an asset or “not the most important thing?”
– I do not know … Sometimes, it happens, I hear people say: “Here is a cute attractive face, so she dances.” I would not want people to think this way about me. Moreover, I do not feel I am any special beauty. We have a lot of beautiful girls in the theater.
– Gossip is a problem?
– I have a hard character. There are, of course, things that hurt me. In such cases, I start to worry, and Vanya reassures me: “All right, well, you gave this already too much attention…”
– Contribution of Critique is a treat?
– Easy. Always listen to the authoritative opinion. For me, the remarks of my teacher Nina Lvovna Semizorova are very important. After my performances we have to deal with every detail of it. And my husband – he is always to the point.
– Your wedding took place on June 6, but not arranged as a special event…
– The problem was that we did not have time. We could hardly find a date when we were both in Moscow. Vanya flew to Moscow on our wedding day only at 3 am. We just got married and had dinner with my parents … But maybe we’ll have another celebration.
– How did Ivan made the proposal?
– I came home from rehearsal. I came in and saw that the whole room was strewn with rose petals.
– He pampers you?
– Yes, terribly. (Laughs.) He is always bringing me gifts.
– What was the most memorable?
– I had a debut in a role – Vanya was not in Moscow, and he sent me flowers to the theater. After the performance, I come to the service entrance, and there was a basket bigger than my car. I left it there. And the next day the guys helped me bring it inside to the dressing room. It took almost the entire room.
– And you do love surprises?
– Very much! Recently I organised a surprise. We had a week before the end of the holiday, and I bought a small tour in Rome for three days. All booked, ordered wonderful excursions – to the Vatican and the Coliseum. Vanya has spent a lot of time in Rome, but always during tours, so that, in fact, he had not seen the sights, and he had a long-standing dream to visit the Colosseum. He dances Spartacus, and it was important for him to see with his own eyes the arena where gladiatorial contests were held and imbued with this atmosphere. It seemed to me, Vanya was very happy.
– Your husband tells you are an amazing cook, and one day for the sake of your chops he almost refused to meet with the president of Russia after the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Sochi. What made these burgers so magical?
– Turkey cutlets with buckwheat. (Laughs.)
– Where did you learn to cook?
– My mother prepares delicious food so it is probably a skill passed from her to me. Also, I have always been interested in different gourmet recipes found on the Internet.
– Most people think ballerinas and kitchens are incompatible.
– It is not so. Ballerinas prepare food in the same manner as everybody else. In the summer a girlfriend who is a ballerina and I made dumplings. I bake pies, make soups. Of course,only when time allows. If performances are every day, I do not do it. But I always make breakfast: cereal, omelettes, scrambled eggs …
– Vasilev and Vinogradova at home and Vasiliev and Vinogradova on stage – two different pairs? You can love each other in your spare time, and fight in rehearsals?
– I do not fight in any case. I always listen to Van – for me his opinion is very important. Even if it happens that I do not feel like it or get nervous.
– You’ve danced in his first ballet production of “Ballet №1” and is now ready for something interesting …
– You know, I remember working on “Ballet №1” as a very hard time. (Laughs.) Because it is not enough that we were in the rehearsal room the whole day to work and at home Vanya continued to dance and think of something. I told him: “Have you ever been quiet? Un talento, artistico, tecnico, perfettamente sviluppato, una vera bellezza Maria Vinogradova – decorazione del Teatro Bolshoi. L’estate scorsa, Maria Vinogradova ha sposato il famoso ballerino, stella del Teatro Bolshoi e Mikhailovsky Ivan Vasiliev: ora sempre più spesso ballano insieme. Il 3 ottobre Vasiliev e Vinogradova si sono riuniti in “Giselle” al Teatro Mikhailovsky di San Pietroburgo, e nella primavera Maria sara’ coinvolta in un nuovo progetto, un balletto che sta preparando suo marito.
– Masha, diventare una ballerina era un tuo sogno da bambina?
– Sì, fin dall’età’ di tre anni, io non potrei vivere senza la musica e la danza. I miei genitori hanno visto la mia passione e hanno deciso di mandarmi a una scuola di danza. Hanno cominciato a vedere le mie capacità. Ero molto morbida, giunture mobili – i bambini, in linea di principio, sono morbidi ed elastici. (Ride). Per un po’ ho lavorato in questo ambiente e poi sono stato ammessa al Song and Dance Ensemble Loktev. Lì ho imparato che tutte le ragazze arrivano in una misteriosa Accademia di Coreografia. Ho deciso che anch’io avrei dovuto andare li’.
– I tuoi genitori sono nel mondo del balletto?
– No, assolutamente. Mia madre – una economista e mio padre – un chimico. Non ci sono legami nel mondo del balletto non ci sono mai stati …
-Quindi hai iniziato l’Accademia di Coreografia.
– Ho lavorato tanto per raggiungere i miei traguardi, proprio in virtù del mio carattere a muso duro, io sono del segno dei Gemelli.

– Sì, Giselle. Mi piace molto anche Shirin di ” The Legend of Love” di Yuri Grigorovich – il balletto, che è tornato sul palco storico del Bolshoi la scorsa stagione. – I responsabili sono stati colpiti dal tuo temperamento appassionato?
– Non lo so. (Ride). Ma mi piace molto il mio personaggio, e tutta la parte nel suo complesso è molto bella. Ma non è semplice. Tutti i 30 minuti, fino all’ultima scena sei sul palco, e non c’è modo anche di prendere fiato. Inoltre i costumi molto elaborati, in tre strati. Durante il ballo rimango in top e pantaloni, ma prima deve ballare con questo “fardello”.
. – Masha, tu sei audace e selvaggia, come Bella?
– (Ride.) Non sono sicura di essere selvaggia ma di certo imprevedibile. Questo pero’ è meglio chiederlo a mio marito. Ivan mi ha detto: “Ogni volta non so cosa aspettarmi da te.”
– Ho visto le prove “Spartacus”. Come è nata la vostra storia d’amore? Lui – Spartacus, tu – Frigia. separati nel mercato degli schiavi …
– (Ride.) Non credo che valga la pena di spendere tali paralleli …
– Che cosa ti ha conquistata di Ivan Vasiliev? Oltre al talento, naturalmente.
– Molto … Io lo amo molto. Lui è semplicemente il migliore. Vanya ha un grande senso dell’umorismo. Ed è onesto, aperto e, soprattutto, una persona responsabile.

– Non lo so … A volte, capita di sentire certi discorsi: ha un bel viso, e’ attraente, e percio’ balla.” Non vorrei che la gente pensasse cosi’ di me. Inoltre, non mi sento una bellezza speciale. Abbiamo un sacco di belle ragazze in teatro.
– Il pettegolezzo ti crea problemi?
– Ho un carattere forte. Te l’ho detto, se voglio non mi interessa. Ci sono, naturalmente, le cose che mi fanno male. In questi casi, comincio a preoccuparmi, e Vanya mi rassicura: “Va bene, beh, ci hai pensato abbastanza! …”
– Ti interessa la critica?

– Il problema era che non abbiamo avuto il tempo. A fatica siamo riusciti a trovare una data in cui eravamo entrambi a Mosca. Il giorno del matrimonio Ivan e’ arrivato in aereo a Mosca solo alle tre di notte. Ci siamo sposati e poi semplicemente abbiamo cenato con le nostre famiglie. Ma forse avremo un’ altra festa.
– Come ti ha fatto la proposta Ivan?
– Sono tornata a casa dalle prove. Sono entrata e ho visto che tutta la stanza era cosparsa di petali di rosa.
– Ti coccola?
– Sì, terribilmente. (Ride.) Lui mi fa sempre dei regali.
– Qual è stato il più memorabile?
– Avevo un debutto, Vanja non era a Mosca, e lui mi ha mandato dei fiori a teatro. Dopo lo spettacolo, arrivo alla porta di servizio, e trovo un cesto più grande della mia macchina. L’ho lasciato li’ ! E il giorno dopo i ragazzi mi hanno aiutato a portarlo nello spogliatoio, ha occupato quasi tutta la stanza.
– E ami le sorprese?
– Mi piacciono molto! Recentemente gli ho fatto io una sorpresa. Avevamo ancora una settimana prima della fine delle vacanze e ho comprato un piccolo tour a Roma di tre giorni. Tutto prenotato, preordinato e delle meravigliose escursioni – in Vaticano e al Colosseo. Ivan era stato un po’ di tempo a Roma, ma sempre durante il tour, tanto che in realtà, non aveva visto niente e aveva il sogno da molto tempo di visitare il Colosseo. Lui balla Spartacus, ed era importante per lui vedere con i propri occhi l’arena dove si svolgevano le lotte dei gladiatori, intrisa di questa atmosfera. – Perché la gente pensa che ballerina e cucina – siano incompatibili, come genio e sregolatezza?
– Non è così. Una ballerina cucina nello stesso modo di tutti gli altri. In estate con la mia amica ballerina abbiamo fatto gli gnocchi, io preparo torte, cuocio minestre. Naturalmente, quando il tempo me lo permette. Se le prestazioni sono ogni giorno, non lo faccio. Ma preparo sempre la prima colazione: cereali, omelette, uova strapazzate …

– Hai ballato nella sua prima produzione di balletto “Balletto №1” ed ora Ivan e’ pronto con qualcosa di interessante …
– Sai, mi ricordo il lavoro su “Balletto №1” come un periodo molto difficile. (Ride.) Perché non era sufficiente che noi passassimo in sala prove l’intera giornata di lavoro, a casa Vanya continuava a ballare, a pensare a qualcosa. Gli ho detto: “Puoi stare un po’ tranquillo?
